“The Rejected” is inspired by the My Little Pony fanfiction “Awoken,” which was inspired by a song of the same name. The story of “Awoken” takes place in the world of Rainbow Factory (another song & fanfiction).

“The Rejected” is from the perspective of a very disturbed Rainbow Dash.
